The windmill in the Krasnosillia village, like the vast majority of mills dating back to that time, has no carved ornaments or porches. Iwan Kličnik, a Czech, was the master who built the windmill. The mill belongs to the post mills, the earliest type of European windmills. The walls are vertical, the building has frame structure, it is planked to the bottom. The windmill rests on blocks from four corners.
The mill’s main structure (the “body” or “buck”) is balanced, hence the whole mill body together with the milling machinery is able to rotate to face the wind direction. There is a trestle in the centre of a post mill, i.e. the arrangement of the main post, crosstrees and quarterbars. This is the backbone of the windmill. The whole system rotates around it. One can also rotate the windmill with a special lever.
The locals say that in the 1960s the windmill actively ground grain into flour. Today, this ancient witness of the past events is the gem of the village – its symbol.
In September, there is a regular festival called “Krasnosil’s’ki vitriaky” (“Krasnosillia Windmills”) here. It is a holiday of folk art, history and daily routine, and tourists from Rivne Oblast and other regions visit it.
