Korshivs’kyi zakaznyk (Korshiv Reserve)

It is an object of Nature Reserve Fund of Rivne Oblast (region) with the total area of 32 hectares. The authorities created the Korshiv Reserve in order to preserve the habitats of insects, namely wild bees and bumblebees.

Description:

The status of reserve was granted in accordance with the Decision of the Rivne Regional Executive Committee dated November 22, 1983 No. 343 (amended in line with the Decision of the Regional Executive Committee dated June 18, 1991 No. 98). The State Enterprise, Specialised Forestry Agricultural Enterprise “Zdolbuniv State Forestry” (sq. 14, mapping units 2-8) manages the object.

This is a ravine system with a main gully up to 7-10 meters, with many side spurs. Forest-like loams, limestones, and sands are eroding in the slopes of the ravines, .

The territory of the reserve is forested. Such trees as Carpinus betulus (i.e. the European or common hornbeams), Acer platanoides (commonly known as the Norway maple) are very common to the area. Birch and pine are rather rare. One can see oak plantations on the more flattened hills, among which there are Corylus avellana (i.e. the common hazel), Euonymus europaeus (i.e. European spindle) and Euonymus verrucosus, and Sambucus nigra (i.e. black or European elder). Considering the grass cover, or forest floor, one can see that such rare species of plants as Lamium galeobdolon (commonly known as yellow archangel or artillery plant), Asarum europaeum (commonly known as asarabacca or European wild ginger), and Galium odoratum (the sweet woodruff or sweetscented bedstraw). There are also such uncommon species as Actaea spicata (the baneberry or herb Christopher), Sanicula europaea (the sanicle or wood sanicle), and Ribes uva-crispa (known as gooseberry or European gooseberry).
